Prime Minister Imran Khan during a recent meeting held to review progress on CPEC was informed that Rashakai-KP, Dhabeji-Sindh and M-3 Faisalabad-Punjab SEZs would be ready for ground-breaking by June this year, which was very encouraging. However, ground-breaking of the SEZ in Islamabad could get unnecessarily delay as the government has not selected any site or acquired land for this project so far. Previous Govt announced that the Special Economic Zone would be established near New Islamabad Airport.

The government is prioritizing the establishment of an ICT Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Islamabad under CPEC. The project of setting up a model ICT zone will commence soon.
The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) has called upon the government to consider early ground-breaking of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under CPEC in Islamabad in order to boost industrial and investment activities in the region.
This ICT Model Industrial Zone would cater following type of industries:
- Steel
- Food Processing
- Pharmaceutical & Chemicals
- Printing and Packaging
- Light Engg. etc.
So far feasibility of the SEZ has been shared with Chinese side.
