Peshawar would have Sports City in Regi Model Town

The KPK CM approved the establishment of the first-ever sports city of the country in the Regi Model Town Peshawar, under the management of KP Sports Directorate.

The project is estimated to cost around one billion rupees to build.

Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was chairing a meeting of the K-P Sports Directorate-General for setting up the Sports City. The CM directed to immediately commence work on the project, starting with the recruitment of international consultants.

According to DG Sports Asfandyar Khattak, Sports City shall have nine (09) holes Golf Course, a class hostel for 400 players, football ground with floodlight facilities, Inter-routes, multi-purposes boxing arena, martial arts indoor gymnasium. The Martial Arts Arena could hold games like Karate, Judo, Wushu, Taekwondo, Jujitsu, and Gymnastics.

The Sports City would have a facility of cycling wooden velodrome at an approximate cost of Rs100 million.

During the meeting, CM Mahmood was told that the provincial Sports Directorate General had sought applications from consultancy firms for the establishment of the city. In response, six firms had submitted bids.

The sports city will be set up over 350 kanals of land owned by the Peshawar Development Authority and will feature all modern facilities.

Sports City will be included in the annual development program of the next financial year, Asfandyar Khan informed.

Further, the provincial government is working to set up 1,000 sports grounds for the youth and substantial funds were being utilised for it. CM was also informed that up gradation work of Arbab Niaz cricket Stadium is also continued for last one year. the stadium being upgraded in line with the ICC standard at a cost of Rs. 1377.87 million.

Earlier, Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has asked the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the Regi Model Town in the provincial capital.
