Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the city police have expedited action against the rogue developers in Lahore as well as the districts of Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana.
The Prime Minister, on learning about as many as 600 illegal housing schemes developed in Lahore division, ordered LDA for taking a concrete action in this regard.
When the PM was told there was problem on the part of police that didn’t lodge FIRs in most cases against the illegal schemes’ developers despite receiving many references from the LDA, he immediately ordered the chief secretary and the senior police officials to ensure lodging of the FIRs in this regard.
In the meeting, which was joined by the Punjab chief secretary, secretaries concerned, senior officers of police and the LDA through video link from Lahore, the PM questioned the unlawfully developed housing schemes within the territorial jurisdiction of Lahore metropolis and the three districts (Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana), which also fall under control area of the LDA and the revenue limits of Lahore division.
During the meeting the LDA Vice Chairman also briefed the PM on as many as 300 demolition operation launched against such schemes during the last two years or so.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday stayed constructions in housing societies established on green land areas in the city (Lahore).
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan on Thursday directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to stop all kind of construction work in illegal housing societies established on the green land areas and also to immediately suspend the amnesty being given to them.
At least 241 societies had been found involved in violation of greenbelts.
Chief Justice Khan rejected a water commission headed by retired justice Ali Akbar Qureshi, which proposed the amnesty for the illegal societies, and observed that apparently the purpose of the scheme was to protect the mafia.
The court also ordered the LDA to submit report about its operation for vacating green land areas.
The CJ directed the LDA counsel to ensure no construction work was carried out in the housing societies set up on the green land areas and summoned the authority’s director general on Feb 2.
