Sindh Govt laid the foundation stone of Malir Expressway

Bilawal Bhutto has laid the foundation stone of 6 lane Malir Expressway, Karachi.

Malir Expressway is 38.75 KMs long expressway at a cost of Rs 27.5 Billion.

It is the biggest public private partnership project of Pakistan which has been conceived & now being implementing by Sindh Govt.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the project that is being undertaken under the public-private partnership will cost Rs27 billion, out of which the Sindh government will pay Rs4 billion.

He said the provincial government had been getting ready for the launch of the project for the past three and a half years but it got delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. In the next phase, he added, the Malir Expressway will be linked to the Karachi port.

Malir Expressway that will begin from Jam Sadiq Bridge Zero Point and end at Kathore Bridge will be built with an estimated cost of Rs27billion rupees and facilitate commuting between DHA Phase-VIII and Phase-IX within 20 minutes.

The Sindh government is launching this mega project, with 39.4 kilometers length, under the Public Private Partnership.

GoS entered into a consortium which includes one of the big 4 audit firm Ernst & Young in order to fulfill necessary requirements before the execution of Malir Expressway at Malir River Bank connecting KPT Interchange with Kathore Link Road (M9 Motorway).

Niaz Soomro, Project Director, Malir Expressway, said that the Malir Expressway would be constructed on the left bank of Maliri River and would be a high speed tool expressway.

Niaz Soomro further said that Malir Expressway will have 6 lanes and 3 feet dual carriageway while the speed design of the expressway will be 100 km per hour.

He also said that the interchange speed of Malaria Expressway would be 50 km per hour.

Malir Expressway includes 8 bridges (3 flyovers), 8 underpasses, 8 cattle creeps, 22 culvers, 6 weigh bridges and 21 Toll Plazas. This will also include 4 interchanges including at Korangi, Shahrah e Faisal and Motorway. There will be 9 crossing points for pedestrians on the Malir Expressway.
