Prime Minister Imran Khan would inaugurate the Leh Nullah Expressway Project in Dec this year.
Referring to the Leh Nullah Expressway project, the Commissioner Rawalpindi directed various stakeholders to resolve their issues, remove bottlenecks and obstacles being faced during designing and implementation of the project.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah has directed the authorities concerned to complete all the arrangements so that the ground-breaking ceremony of Nullah Leh Expressway project could be held this year.
The Punjab government has forwarded the PC-I to acquire land for the Leh Expressway and Flood Channel project worth Rs25 billion to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for final approval.
The Punjab Planning and Development Board has already approved the project and work on land acquisition will start after the PC-I gets clearance from the CDWP.
According to Daily Dawn, PC-I for construction of the expressway and its detailed design would be completed by Oct 22 after which it would be sent to the Planning and Development Board for approval.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid told in a one of the press conference that the Punjab government had allocated Rs55 billion for ‘Nullah Lai project’ in the budget of financial year 2021-22, adding, the construction work of the project would be kicked off this year.
The project was under taken from I.J Principal Road at Katarian Bridge to Ammar Chowk for 11 km whereas the total length of Nullah Lai is about 19 km which ends in Soan River near High Court at G.T Road.
He said this project would be completed under public-private partnership.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Nullah Lai Expressway would be a game changer project for the city and would help ease traffic congestion in the town.
The project would also help control flash flooding problems during heavy rains, he said.
Commissioner Rawalpindi directed the RDA to get a coordination plan from NESPAK so that it could go to PC-1 by October 23. He instructed all the officers to complete the work within given time frame to inaugurate the project in December.
According to Daily Dawn, official of RDA said that public reservations about the project would be entertained, especially from those living along Leh Nullah.
